Like my fellow fitness compatriots, the importance of physical fitness was imprinted to me at a young age. In my earliest memories I can see my father performing his lifting routine built from Arnold Schwarzenegger’s “Body Building Encyclopedia for Men”. Once I was old enough to watch “The Predator” it was all over for me and I knew the importance of being a jacked war-fighting machine.

I grew up doing sports that required a tremendous amount of work capacity. To me there was no better marriage in the arena of fitness between strength and endurance than that which was needed to produce effective judo players and wrestlers. In high school I would continue to develop this capacity on the cross-country team.

Throughout my twenties I learned exactly what it mean to be a part of a greater purpose. I served my country for 6 years – 2 of which were spent overseas in Iraq and Afghanistan. Thanks to the mental toughness and strength I cultivated throughout my formative years I was able to achieve membership in arguably the highest and most demanding infantry unit in the world – the 75thRanger Regiment. It was there that I was exposed to the methodologies that blend lifting modalities with aerobic endurance. It was necessary for our job profile and essential to our survival that we mastered our bodies.

Being an infantryman and fighting in a war zone taught me the importance of team bonding. We all need to be on the same page and genuinely care about the well-being of the people to our left and right if we all want to get home safely. I carried this perspective with me to all my endeavors after the military. As the Ranger Creed states, “I will always keep myself mentally alert, physically strong, and morally straight.” Therefore my greatest strength as a coach is my belief in my heart that your life depends on your physical readiness. In fact my life depends on your capacity and yours depends on mine as well. It’s been said that one ought not be found lacking when fate knocks on ones door. I genuinely care to see you be the best you can possibly be.

The staff Aquila Fitness welcomed me with open arms to train at their gym in 2010. In 2012 they acted as mentors to me when I opened up my own box, which I ran successfully for 4 years. We lifted together with Mark Bell from 2012 to 2014. Throughout the years we have remained connected in our friendship – the common denominator being our passion for fitness.

My current fitness goal is to be the best Brazilian Jujitsu practitioner I can possibly be.

“No citizen has a right to be an amateur in the matter of physical training…what a disgrace it is for a man to grow old without ever seeing the beauty and strength of which his body is capable.” – Socrates
