Its great to toil away day in and out here at Aquila making the body and spirit that you’ve always wanted. The sweat equity pays off when you look in the mirror or you add another plate to your favorite lift. It’s rewarding to chase down goals in the form of PR’s or lost inches or bigger T-shirts, but what happens when the body that you’ve struggled so hard for betrays you? Sometimes unforeseen events can drastically change our health and affect those that we love in the process, and greatly alter the course of our lives. In times like these we need our community to rally around help and us us pick up the broken pieces and ourselves and move on, hopefully stronger in the process.
I have a great friend and training partner named Arturo Fernandez. He’s the type of dude that most of us wish that we had the fortitude to be when we grow up. Army Ranger, veteran of several tours over seas and a self made small business owner of Land Park Crossfit. Arturo, started his gym virtually on his own, but a key player was a woman by the name of Jamie Silva. Jamie was paramount in helping Arturo coach; man/woman hours in this industry are invaluable. Jamie donated her time by coaching classes, she ran the gym when Arturo was indisposed, and basically helped turn the place into a thriving affiliate all while managing her own small business, being a mother and a wife at the same time. Sadly, Jamie was recently diagnosed with breast cancer. Jamie had surgery on the 23rd of January and will under chemo in the coming months. Our mission as a community of like-minded folks is to help them make their finances during this crisis the least of their concerns.
Hence, they are having a fundraiser. February 28th (day one of the CF open) we will be asking anyone and everyone who is financially able to donate 20$ to Jamie’s cause. If youre able to attend, there will also be a big soirée at LPCF complete with exercise, activities for the kids and of course BEER. Jamie’s big ass bad ass boobs and ass fundraiser (yes you read that right) will go down at 10 am at LPCF. We will be accepting donations here at Aquila for those of you who choose not to get out of your comfort zone and do the open wod at another box, but for you adventurous types, LPCF is located at 6235 Belleauwood Lane Sacramento CA 95822. I will be attending the event after helping out here and coaching the first open workout. I encourage you to stop by meet some cool people, maybe sweat a little, and have a BEER all in the name of doing something great for a great person.
Those of you that enjoyed my last blog about helping someone out of the muck when they are in need instead of walking past, this is a great easy way to do something wonderful for someone who really needs in. There is a beautiful flyer on the corkboard with all the details. Please guys, its 20$, that’s less than a half hours work for most of us, help out, you never know when you yourself may be the one in need.

LPCF is a great space to workout- sounds fun, and of course, a nicr way to contribute. Arturo is a great coach, too, like you guys are! Really nice move that you would rally for Jamie like this. Great article, too, Travis!
You guys and the CF community continue to impress me.
Arturo
Thanks for sharing the information. I’ve always appreciated the special relationship I’ve had with Aguila Fitness.
