Cori Mering poses for a shot with one of the OG female firebreather CrossFitters of all time, Annie Sakimoto.
The very first CrossFit video that I ever watched was a video of Annie doing a WOD called "Josh" in the original CrossFit box in Santa Cruz. I had known of CrossFit for over a year and had no interest in the program, mainly due to my own ignorance. At the time, the hype surrounding CrossFit had become too much too continue to ignore. So I started exploring their website to learn more.
When I watched the video below of Annie, my jaw dropped to the floor. How could a tiny Asian woman be so strong and have such high work capacity? How can she do 30 pull ups in a row and follow it up with 12 more after 3 breaths? I thought to myself, what kind of steriods are they feeding these people? All of the sudden, I realized that I had no idea what CrossFit really was about and I understood instantly that CrossFit was super-badass. I must have sat at the computer for over an hour watching video after video in disbelief of what I was seeing. That was it for me, been hooked ever since. Thanks to Annie for being such an inspirational athlete.
