Since there hasn't been a post on the members' nutrition blog since November I wanted to post a crock pot recipe I use on a weekly basis.

AO's Tatoes

Ingredients: 1 Bag of Organic Sweet Potatoes
3-5 Apples (whatever kind you like – I use either granny smith, fuji, or pink lady)
                    3 Tablespoons Melted Coconut Oil
                    1/4 Tablespoon Nutmeg
                    1/4 Tablespoon Cinnamon
Instructions: Peel and dice potatoes/apples and put in crock pot
Melt coconut oil, pour over potatoes/apples
Sprinkle nutmeg and cinnamon over the top
Cook in crock pot for 3-4 Hours on high
Mash it all together once cooked
                    Enjoy

This can be altered depending on your goals. If it's weight loss then take out the apples and just enjoy some good potatoes. If you are trying to get big (like Travis and I), then add bananas near the end of its cooking time and then add a bunch of almond butter. Either way it tastes great.

1- can it be paleo and vegetarian?
2- where’s the bacon, without bacon Matt P. wont eat it.
3- Amy Muraki is making her own baby food, did you get the recipe from her?
Okay, in all seriousness though, it sounds pretty tasty but you kind of lost me somewhere on the ‘if you are trying to lose weight take out the apples’. I can see how adding the caloric density of almond butter would help with bulking up, but what’s with the apples?

  2. Perhaps, by cutting the apples – you’re removing the fructose, which metabolizes without insulin; where the carbs in the sweet potatoes turn to glucose. (Sounds like a great big glob of sugar) I would personally use yams over sweet potatoes.
I typically enjoy at least three cups of leafy vegetables per day, a cup of steamed veggies like asparagus, a cup of red veggies like tomatoes and red bell peppers, try beets rather than sweet potatoes (great carbs but better nutrients).

Sounds yummy! Anybody who’s goal is weight loss, should really only consume this as part of their post wod meal.

  4. AO

Yep Stacey is right. I forgot to put that on the post. Eating this post wod with some quick digesting protein is a great idea no matter what your goal may be.

Aaron, if you’re trying to “get big,” I recommend you stop eating like a 12yr old girl and fill up the whole bowl. One spoonful of sweet potatoes aint gonna to cut it.

  7. My mom signed up for the Open… did yours?

  8. AO

Adam I eat out of gigantic bowls

  9. AO: well actually adam k said fill up the bowl. he didn’t ask how big the bowl is.
