The 5:00 PM class box jumping their hearts out last week.  Jumping is one of the most primal functional human movements that exists.  It involves explosive hip extension while maintaining a rigid spine and doing a tremendous amount of work all at the same time.  Performing box jumps in a timed competitive environment leads to significant increases in work capacity.  Most every athletic or functional movement is a derivative of a powerful jump.  If you analyze these types of movements, you will find that they almost all involve the very same explosive hip extension and maintenance of a rigid spine as seen in an effective jump.  If you are good at jumping it is likely that you are a good athlete and if you are a good athlete it is likely that you can jump well.  Getting better at jumping = getting better at everything, so we will jump.
