Stacey and Brian McCauley participated in the 2012 Fight For Air Climb. They competed with other individuals, teams, and firefighters in full gear. The "vertical race" consisted of 612 steps equaling the 32 stories of the Wells Fargo Center. Stacey received an email a couple weeks ago inviting them to show up to an awards ceremony. She thought it was for a participation ribbon that everyone recieved. Little did she know that both her and Brian placed 3rd in each of their CrossFit Challenge Divisions. Pictured are their certificates and medals. In both the 18-59 male and female divisions, Brian placed 10th and Stacey placed 19th. Brian told me his goal is to win the whole thing next year. Congrats on a job well done!

    Way to go, guys!!

  2. Awesome job guys! Always stoked to hear of our athletes doing well in any competition.

  3. Nice work Stacey and Brian!

  4. OK, I can’t help but post this quote:
“There is no good reason for the vast majority of people to ever perform an exercise explosively. Outside of competitive lifters it offers nothing of value over exercises performed at more controlled speeds and carries a greater risk of injury.”
It’s from a guy named Andrew Baye, which I found in the comments on this post (which Sean posted the other day):

Scott, to be fair I think I only attempt to perform any exercise explosively.
Any Newbie Throwdown updates? It looks a lot like we have enough coaches and could use a few more teammates (about 10 last count). I haven’t looked through the sign up board too close, but maybe it is time to start calling out some names . . .

  6. Scott… I totally aced those 10 tests.

  7. Jen

Haha awesome!! Yay Stacey and Brian!

  8. Scott, here’s 10 Fitness Tests-
1 Can you do a dead hang pull up?
2 Can you run an 8 minute mile?
3 Can you do an overhead squat with .5BW?
    4 Can you deadlift 1.5BW?
5 Can you jump on a box mid thigh high?
6 Can you row 1k under 3:30/4:00 min?
7 Can you walk 10 ft on your hands?
8 Can you climb a rope?
9 Can you do a dip?
10 Can you do Fran, period?
If yes to all, then pretty fit. If no, that’s ok but keep working.

Justin, I liked ‘carrying milk without strain’ better. I thought I was “fit” until you posted…

  10. Scott- I’m still ok on the new 10, are you ptretty close?

  11. Crap… Handstand walk. Nevermind.

  12. Boo Justin, I was fit according to Scott, haha!

  13. I may, or may not, be able to pass any given particular fitness test. But the most important thing is — do I understand how to scale?
