GREAT SQUWAT!

Rest Day

Matt earned his Christmas present a few days early and hit a 400# squat on Saturday!  He has been squatting every day, which I hesitate to tell you all about, but this achievement has to be celebrated.  I asked Matt to write me up a bit on his experience with squat club.  And let me tell you that if you're getting any ideas, you better hope Santa brought you a squat rack and a barbell set today.

A couple months ago I came across this article on the CrossFit Community page about a "squat a day experiment." http://community.crossfit.com/article/experimenting-squat-day
The idea was pretty simple: squat heavy every day and get stronger and more confident with squats.  Seemed simple enough, so I loaded up my bar and did 5 singles. Then I roped a few folks into joining
me and Squat Club was born.
And so it went, I squatted heavy every day, squatting over 300# as often as possible. Weeks went by
and my old 1 Rep Max of 355# became no big deal. Because we were fitting the squats in whenever we
could, squats happened in the morning, late at night, in jeans or pajamas, at the gym or at home, in street shoes or barefoot.
As my confidence built, my last lift of the day moved up and up 360-365-370… Then, for me Squat Club became the quest for 400#.  On Saturday, after 69 days of squatting and a couple hundred KB swings in the morning, I finally got it.
Here are some stats from the experiment:
1 rep went from 355# to 400#
5 rep went from 315# to 350#
20 rep max  from 250# to 275#
Total number of squats over 300# = more than 250.
Squats
have also helped in other areas, too. I posted several PR's on classic
cardio workouts, bench, push jerk, push press and others.
