We featured Colleen just over a week ago on a new member profile, but she caught my eye on Saturday with her determination. Colleen is in her first month here and with a great attitude decided to participate in the Open. Double unders were dissapointing for her first week, then this week, chest to bar pull ups and overhead squats were about the two most un-beginner-friendly movements that could have come out. We worked with Colleen and made her some ghetto lifting shoes and got her to squeak out a few reps at 45# on the overhead squat. I love the fact that rather than coming in here defeated, or just not showing up, Colleen came in to challenge herself and see what she could make of the day. She got some reps on the board officially and then proceeded to do a scaled version of the workout that provided a good stimulus for herself.
We are all at different levels and on our own individual fitness journeys. Be inspired by this and remember to judge yourself by your effort and your own progress vs. how you measure up to others. Where you are today is not nearly as important as where you are going. Hard work is the key to everything good in life. Do not view your challenges as obstacles, but rather as opportunities.
