From Barb Winn-
One of the organizations I work with is Disable Sports USA, Far West.
They do two events a year in our region for the Wounded Warrior
Program. I was just able to fund the Alpine Ski Event, and was hoping
to pull a team together on a short notice.

I will be attending the event, but due to my skill level, I do not want
to let down the adapted skier who will be teamed up with us. I wanted
to give our Wounded Warrior a chance to potentially win, so I, of
course, thought of the Crazy, Fun, Competitive Athletes at CFES. I was
hoping to find FOUR really cool Cross Fit East Sac Skiers/Snow Boarders
for a team. CFES has the most awesome group of athletes who are also
generous and encouraging people.

This is how it will work:
The event is at Alpine Meadows on Friday March 19, 2010.
I have covered the Sponsorship, so the day is FREE!! (Except for your transportation)
Our CFES team of four will be accompanied by a Moderate/to Great
Wounded Warrior Adapted Skier and will race as a team in a Giant Slalom
type course.
Registration begins at 8:30 am and races begin at 10am.
Lunch is provided at 12:30, followed by an All Mountain Scrabble at
1:30pm-I'm told this is a really fun Scavenger Hunt-our team will
compete at this event as well.
At 3:30pm the All Mountain Scrabble ends, and the Après Ski party and Awards ceremony begins.

This is a fun filled day ……and you will be INSPIRED!!!

Thanks for helping me pull a team together. I really hope we have some
takers. All I ask is that you are a moderate/great skier, not afraid to
compete (can't believe I am saying that to anyone who does CrossFit),
and not afraid to have LOTS of FUN!

I will send the team members all the info, and the waivers, once we have them pulled together.

Why is the Wounded Warrior Disabled Sports Project Important? "If I can do this, I can do anything!"
These soldiers, airmen and marines are going through a very difficult
time. They are warriors, athletes with the majority in their twenties.
This sudden, traumatic change in physical ability makes service members
vulnerable to psychological and emotional, as well as physical trauma;
which severely impacts them and their families.

What they need is action NOW that will show them the promise of a
bright and active future. Sport provides this. With the proper adaptive
equipment and trained instructors, they can successfully learn a sport
– almost any sport-in ONE day. This immediate success provides a
foundation for the development of a positive self-image and outlook on
life. This transformation is a key factor in leading an independent,
full and productive life.
