One of Colleen’s first GPP WODs was the one mile sled push, shown here at 6:45am!

I’m Colleen Simmons and am 56 years old.  I grew up in Southern California and moved to Sacramento in 1988.  I felt crowded in LA after completing nursing school and working for years at LA County/USC Medical Center.  I moved here and got my bachelor’s and master’s degrees at Sac State (love that campus).   My current job is Practice Nurse Manager of UC Davis Vascular Center. I visit LA often as my parents and three sisters still live there.  I spend my down time with my amazing  boyfriend, David,  a great circle of friends, and my beautiful blonde German Shepherd/Husky mix, Lucy.

Although I was crazy active as a kid – horseback riding, climbing on everything, riding my bike all over town- I didn’t regularly exercise again until I was in my 30’s. In an undergraduate psychology class, we were required to complete a one mile nonstop run by the end of the semester.  That worked for me – in 2001, I completed the California International Marathon.  I mixed in cycling, and later rowing.  In 2010, one of my sisters talked me into doing the Napa Valley Sprint Triathlon with her, so I added in swimming.  We had a great time! This year, the same sister talked me into doing the Warrior Dash in April.

I’ve had my eye on CFES for over a year now, wondering if it would be too raw, too hard, or too young for me.   My new year’s resolution to return to fitness, coupled with the Warrior Dash promise, finally brought me in.  I LOVE the workouts and have found folks to be really supportive.  I’m so impressed with the knowledge level and attentiveness of the trainers.   I am obsessed!!!.

I look forward to gaining confidence, strength, and flexibility.  I feel strongly committed to spending the next year working hard.  I’d like to ultimately incorporate gymnastic components to my skillset, and am hoping that the “constantly varied” part will keep me interested for many, many years.
