Couldn't believe this when I saw it. What a way to cloud our gluttonous desires. Looks like weighted utensils have been invented so one can burn more calories while they ingest calories. Guess we can eat two pints of Ben and Jerry's now instead of just one.

  1. So the correct scientific explanation for the benefits associated with weighted silverware would be, an increase in the thermic effect of food. We could also achieve a similar effect by adding rubber to the food to make it chewy, and adding non-digestible ingredients like horse hair. More chewing plus cooking with horse hair and useing heavy silverware… you might break even on that lasagna.

Rather than talk about the heavy silverware or the bulletproof glass installed in the office . . .
For years there has been an interesting discussion about cycling efficiency and since we had a aerodyne WOD today, it’s applicable. Exercise scientists have often said that the most efficient cadence on a bike is about 60 rpm. Cyclists have stated that 90-110 rpm is more efficient (and if you look at procyclists many of them will even exceed that especially track cyclists).
Try this out today? Crank up the resistance on the aerodyne or the wattbike and see how it feels to pedal at about 60 rpm (the wattbike will tell you your cadence making it a bit easier to do this experiment with), then loosen up the resistance so that you are spinning a bit more freely (if you haven’t ridden much, you might shoot for thge 80-90 rpm so that you are a bit smoother).

The 1-way mirror is a little too reminiscent of being in police line-ups during my college days…
JUST KIDDING. Besides taking finals totally drunk, I had a pretty tame college career that did not involve being in police custody. And by “tame”, I mean…
I echo Carol P’s comment from yesterday: that mirror is pretty creepy.

  4. In pretty sure they installed the mirror backwards. Justin wanted it facing in while he works.

  5. …and watching himself flex his pecs! I could picture Loren rolling her eyes.
Fun SHT throwing med balls down to the fence and back this morning EXCEPT for me letting the ball go to early, my feet slipping from under me and falling on my ass. Classic Cherie move…it was pretty funny once I made sure I didn’t break anything.

  6. Even though Justin hates Facebook, all of you that are on there have a CFES-civic duty to promote the Throwdown this weekend!
Get on the interwebs, link the Throwdown blog and post your faces off. It’s not about getting people to show up necessarily, but more to promote this event and flex a little norcal badassery.
Plus, us HIPFIT-ers would appreciate some publicity 🙂

How come Brooke’s back looks amazing and none of anyone else I’ve seen at the gym has the same physique? Travis comes close but I’m curious how do I build up definition in my shoulder and upper back muscles like her?

Forging elite fitness doesn’t mean you come in first. But it does mean you have the opportunity to help open opportunities for everybody to excel.
I’m looking forward to seeing some great efforts this Saturday!

  15. The long run should be few and far between even if you are one of the silly few who still wants to get a PR on your marathon and qualify for Boston again.
