I gotta be honest I was a little afraid to wake up yesterday and for good reason. After going through that competition on Saturday, I woke up feeling like Rob Orlando body slammed me. I think the 4×400 relay in the first wod had quite the adverse effect on my hip flexors since they seemed to have quadrupled in size and are extremely sore to the touch. This got me thinking about recovery again. My first post I talked about epsom salt lotion. Even though the lotion is more convenient, a piping hot epsom salt bath is a really good option for decreasing muscle soreness and speeding recovery. On the other end of the spectrum cold water therapy is a very useful tool in recovery. Two weeks ago Matt P, Travis, Blair Morrison (underwater), and myself spent a half hour or so in the river trying to get rid of our leg soreness. Please post in comments what methods you use in order to feel better faster.

I cover every inch of my body in icy-hot and then I roll myself up in suran (spelling) wrap. Always seems to do the trick.

Beer.
Justin Riley
Icy Hot on your junk too? That sucks!

Usually I hurt the day after but yesterday I felt pretty good. Started hurting this morning instead. Not sure why my soreness is delayed this time. I’ll try the Epsom salt tonight.

Ice bath. Fill the bath with cold water, get in, and dump 2 bags of ice in. Sit there until the ice all melts. Kinda like Harlan’s cryochamber for the old school.

This is very simple, and a whole lot less cold. I only use 1/4 of teaspoon and add lemon or lime and it works.

yesterday I felt like I was hit by a truck. We went to CVS and picked up a bottle of the epsom salt lotion and that seems to help. Other recovery has been 10 hrs of sleep the past 2 nights, 400mg ibuprofen every 4-5 hours, and lots of food. To wussy to try an ice bath!

I’m such a lazy ass I usually just deal with it for a couple days. Sometimes I will roll out if the pain is bad enough to make me swear at my mother.
John Carey, lay off the pain meds, that’s gonna do more harm than good in the long run. And besides, be proud of your soreness. To attempt to rid it with ibuprofen is a great injustice to your manhood.
Brooke
I eat meat.
Calvin
I whine about it and have my wife do all the housework. Works great! (my manhood has suffered a lot of injustice)
Hollis
Fish oil and whining.

I think heavy deadlifts works Wonders on taking your mind off what was sore from
Whatever workout you did last. In fact, any workout helps, it gets your mind off the old sore areas and in to the new sore areas. Then eat meat. Repeat as needed.

BTWB is now collecting all kinds of stats now…enough that it may kill my spreadsheet journal. Totally made my day!!!
John Michelmore
I agree with Matt….another workout!
Broski, I think you were answering a different question.

Justin, you haven’t lived until you’ve experienced “icy hot on your junk.” I would suggest that you give it a shot on Saturday to keep things “spicy.”
Donna S.
Yes! Eat meat! I scarfed down a new york steak and eggs breakfast at 12:30 last night. . . and I’m still hungry this morning. More meat.
Thanks to all of the veteran and new (Leah and Justin, right?) Rx team members, Justin Riley, and friends and family for your support and encouragement for us scaled competitors!
To my scaled teammates, what a great group to take the leap with! Ari – you rock, woman! What an inspiration for me to push myself harder and get to Level 1! John M. – thank you for pushing me to do more than i thought i could — you can yell really loud!! 😉 John C. – way to step it up, foundations-homey! let’s push through to the next level — more scaled competitions and then taking our Level 1 tests?
Hmmm. I see a common theme: PUSH! PUSH! PUSH! 🙂
I frickin’ LOVE crossfit!!!

Forget the epsom salt…just rub chalk on wherever you’re sore and its all good!
