Strength Sunday and Upcoming Meet

1.5.13 Denise

Here's Denise getting in some handstand practice after hitting a 3RM backsquat at 200lbs earlier. Way to work!

Saturday, Feb 2nd is the 2013 Sacramento High CrossFit Open I weightlifting meet. It's unsanctioned (so you don't need USAW membership) and the entry fee is only $20 so there shouldn't be any excuses for not getting in a practice meet early this year. Also, this is a great way to establish a baseline meet total. Here's the entry form and meet info. Ask Coach Kari if you have questions.

As always, check the 2013 Pacific Weightlifting Association schedule for local meets you might be interested in attending. This is a way for you to set goals that will help you stay focused.

Strength this week:
Tues 6pm: Tempo front squat and RDL work
Thurs 6pm: Push press/split jerk combo
Sat 11am: speedy deadlifts

Make sure to fill out your goals in this form if you haven't yet. Add in any pertinent injuries you might have so we can take those into account.

Also, here's me squatting 100kg (220lbs) 20 times. It was unpleasant; it's hard to catch your breath between reps after a while. My core goes a little during the set, I know when I'm still in the safe zone though. Brought it up to a single at 130kg (285lbs) first.

A huge congrats to Denise and a huge congrats to Lesley who had a PR of 145#!! Nice job ladies:))
Justin are the womans tanks Bella brand?

  2. Great squatting Rae! I was also planning to post this meet as soon as I could work it into the blog. Lets get a bunch of people and go lift. Informal meet will be a great way to gain weightlifting experience with less pressure.
Xenia, the tanks are next level. Same style as Bella. They should be very comparable.

Ohh, oops! Sorry, didn’t know you were going to post about it, hopefully I didn’t steal your thunder!

Denise does 200 for a triple and Rae 220 for 20….strong, strong ladies right there! Nice work!

  5. Rae- I like the little prayer at the end… good work.
If its a CF lifting meet, do I still have to make weight? or is that relaxed too?

Wow Rae, that was super impressive! And props to Denise for being such a badass as well! Super strong women at our gym!!

  7. Rae you can’t steal my thunder. I was just letting everyone know I’m getting behind this meet. Might even do this one myself.
Matt, in the CF division the meet will be scored using the Sinclair formula which normalizes lifters across all weight classes based on the world records in their respective weight classes. So you will weigh in, and dropping a weight class would most likely give you an advantage assuming you don’t drop strength and that the world record in the lighter division is significantly less than the higher division.

  8. Rae……nice freaking squats!!!! Puts mine to shame!!! 🙂 Gives me a lot to work towards too! U r awesome!

  9. might have to bust out the old Split Snatch again!!!!

For those of you who are interested in competing in the lifting meet and wonder what bodyweight class you’d be in, here you go:
Athletes compete in a division determined by their body mass. There are eight male divisions and seven female divisions. The men’s classes are:
    56 kg (123 lb)
    62 kg (137 lb)
    69 kg (152 lb)
    77 kg (170 lb)
    85 kg (187 lb)
    94 kg (207 lb)
    105 kg (231 lb)
    and over 105 kg;
    And the women’s are:
    48 kg (106 lb)
    53 kg (117 lb)
    58 kg (128 lb)
    63 kg (139 lb)
    69 kg (152 lb)
    75 kg (165 lb)
    and over 75 kg
Of course, the BIG IMPORTANT QUESTION I’m wondering about is whether they will let us Crossfitters forgo the mandatory singlet. Ugh-LY! 😉

  11. Wow Rae. You’re not stealing thunder, you’re making lightning like f’n ZUES!
