My name is Aaron Rosenberg. I’m 35, married with one kid-o who loves taking the place of a medicine ball for either sit ups, or to be tossed in the air. I just brought my family from the East coast to Sacramento for work. I grew up here, graduated from Rio Americano in ’97, where I swam and played water polo, and swam at Arden Hills (with some other CFES members when they were little). Even though I’ve been living up and down the eastern sea board for just under 20 years, I’ve stayed a Northern Californian at heart and I’m psyched to be back. My wife has never lived West of the Mississippi, so I think she may be in for a bit of culture shock, but I’m hoping she’ll see the light this winter when we don’t have to shovel out the car.
I was a competitive swimmer throughout my childhood and college, until illness took me out of the pool during my senior year. The east coast can be a difficult place to find a good place to swim – and I haven’t really swam regularly since I was 22 (though I miss that, and water polo, terribly). I was more of a distance athlete than a sprinter, and when I realized that I couldn’t get up a couple of flights of stairs without getting winded I decided that it was time to find some regular exercise. (That and my pants stopped fitting and I refused to go up a size!) I started at a CrossFit box in Boston in 2012 and got derailed after a year by long commutes and inconvenient hours. I started again earlier this year at a different Boston box, and I haven’t looked back.
Short term: I’m still feeling the lack of endurance – even on short WODs it’s my cardio reserve that fails first, so pushing through that hurdle is number one right now.
Longer term: I want to be able to Rx Mary. I’ve worked a bit towards consistent pistols – but those hand stand pushups are still a ways off I’m afraid.
Please come up and say hi! Even though I know Sac pretty well, most of my friends live in the Bay Area or back East – so new faces are welcome. And if anyone wants to get a pick-up water polo game organized, count me in!
