I’m Jamie Weatherfield, I’m 32 and I grew up here in the Sacramento region. Four years ago I moved to Washington D.C. to obtain my degree in nursing and after finishing school and working on the east coast for awhile, I finally came back to California in January. I am currently an ICU nurse and am having a great time settling back on the west coast.

I attended Sac State for undergrad and while I was there I took of advantage of the opportunity to sign up for the novice women’s rowing team. I loved being able to participate in a competitive, intense sport at the collegiate level with no prior experience. I was instantly hooked on rowing and was on the team for all four years. It was easy to maintain a great level of fitness in college with practice six days a week during the school year.

After college, I struggled to remain fit without the camaraderie of teammates and coaching to help guide and push me. It was pretty easy to become out of shape when nothing compared to the structure of team sports that I had known my entire life. A good friend and old teammate mentioned to me that she had joined CrossFit and said it was just like being back in the weight room at Sac State. That got my attention and I knew I had to give it a shot.

It took me awhile, but about a year ago in DC I decided I finally had to show up for a CrossFit intro class. Just like rowing, I was instantly hooked and haven’t really looked back. When I found out I was moving back to California, my awesome coaches at Crossfit DC pointed me to Crossfit East Sac and I am excited to be a member. As far as goals go, I really want to work on the fundamentals and just continue to improve my level of fitness every week. My job reminds me everyday that poor health has serious consequences and I want to continue to make choices that keep me healthy and fit.
