I came to CrossFit East Sacramento as a timid, insecure, skinny, pseudo-vegetarian, distance runner… I leave as a strong, self-confident, capable, steak-loving athlete and person. The experiences I’ve had here have helped me achieve physical goals I never imagined possible for myself, but more importantly have changed me in ways which helped me navigate through some challenging personal, physical and professional circumstances with courage and mental fortitude.

One thing I know for certain is that we are spoiled by the caliber of coaching we receive. The coaches here have not only patiently trained me as an athlete over the past 3 years, but have also helped develop something absolutely invaluable: the confidence of believing that I can accomplish any goal I set in CrossFit AND in life if I have desire and put in hard work. From Justin coaching [forcing] me during the old competitor’s program days to complete 15 squat cleans at 135# no matter how long it took (which I now see was a successful ploy at convincing me I was capable of much more than I thought), to the opportunity to put myself out there to represent CFES with an awesome team at the 2012 SacTown Throwdown and at Garage Games individually where I met the love of my life, to a hundred conversations with Travis about basically “sacking up”, believing in myself and not being so afraid of failing…I’m thankful beyond words to my coaches.

Although it’s exciting to start a new chapter closer to my family, Bay Area friends and especially my boyfriend AJ, one of the most difficult parts of the move will be leaving the CFES community and great friends I have made here. Some of you have truly become my family. Thank you to each coach, member and friend for inspiring me along the way more than you realize! I look forward to seeing even bigger and better things for this box in years to come. You guys will always have an incredibly special place in my heart and mind.

So, I guess this is the part where I must say “goodbye”
or, as I prefer to think if it, “see you later” : )

Always a CFESer,

Ashley Latimer
