Barb goes heels over head for handstand push ups.  We had nearly everyone in the gym inverted yesterday.  For many of us it is a very unsettling feeling to be turned upside down.  Your core muscles are well trained at supporting your body from the feet up.  When turned over, the muscles are not sure how to respond at first.  After the body adapts and learns how to stabilize its self in the inverted position you gain a degree of strength and coordination that can be applied when back on your feet.  For most of us handstand push ups are a very difficult gymnastic exercise.  We had people who could not perform more than a few hspu's work on slow controlled negatives (the lowering portion of the movement).  Negatives are a highly effective technique that gymnasts frequently use to develop new movements.

Here is an intense video demo of today's WOD by some serious firebreathers, compliments of CrossFit.com.  Try this at home.
