My name is Mary Harty, and Justin asked me to share my success story with all of you. I am 68 years old, and nine years ago I discovered that I had a gluten allergy known as Celiac disease.  As a result of living for years with undiagnosed Celiac I had developed osteoporosis. I had broken quite a few bones before I started CrossFit; elbow, pelvic, ball of my foot and few toes. My son Pat and his wife Anne said CrossFit would be good for my bones and gave me some private lessons as a birthday gift.  I was skeptical if CrossFit would do anything to help my bones, but I kept going despite the fact that it felt like they were trying to kill me.

IMG_42722So to make a long story LONG I just went to my doctor last Thursday.  After taking my bone density test, he looked at my history from the last twenty years and was ecstatic to tell me that my bones have improved dramatically!  My osteoporosis has been reversed to a state of osteopenia. I could not believe it and asked him to make sure that the name on these tests were mine. He was so happy and kept fist bumping me. He said that my gluten free diet combined with the CrossFit has made a remarkable difference in my bones. I was so thrilled to hear that news and had to tell everyone at CrossFit East Sac.

I have been a member of Crossfit East Sac for about three years now. I am still not sure I like going to CrossFit where they keep trying to kill me, but I sure like knowing that I am making significant progress towards better health.  Thank you thank you thank you CrossFit East Sac and thank you to Pat and Anne for pushing me to do it. It truly helped my bones coming to CrossFit.
