We had 7 masters athletes qualify for round 2 of the Open!  This means that they are in the top 200 in the world in their age group!  Absolutely outstanding.

You all know Cori and Harlan.  Props to Harlan on a hard year of training and an imporvement from 21st last year to 13 this year.  He’s poised to qualify for the games again.  Also amazing for Cori that she has held back considerably and had a fun vs focused year of training and still placed 25th.  You all know these two,  but there are a bunch of others who deserve recognition as well.

John Michelmore is just a bad ass.  He has been competing in masters since it first existed in 2010.  He has had to nurse his body through many aches and pains and has said that this was not his year and that he’s holding back to be healthy for next year.  75th in the world buddy.  Not too shabby for a conservative year of getting healthy for next year!

Lesley Heller is our original masters competitor and has represented our gym in so many local comps.  Lesley has worked consistently hard for so many years now (I trained here years before CF ever started) and has overcome so many challenges.  She has been doing private sessions with Amber to work on her main goat, gymnastics, and it has paid off big.

Cherie is of the hardest working most consistent athletes in all of our gym.  I am constantly amazed by the volume of training that she seems to bounce back with.  She is in here giving the younger athletes, myself included, a run for their money every day.  For those of you who don’t know, the 40-44 division is crazy competitive and also an enormous division, I know the men’s 40-44 had over 8000 finishers.  Almost every athlete in the games last year in that division was also an individual qualifier for their region at the open age group level.  To be in the top 200 in this division is crazy good.

Also wanted to give a shout to Larry Rouen who placed 209.  Larry is the man!  Next year top 200 for sure.

You all make me so proud of this gym.  There are so many reasons to be proud of our gym, but our masters athletes are the biggest reason by far.  Can’t wait to see you all perform round 2 of the Open.  Keep eyes peeled for more info on that soon.
