Going straight into the paleo diet can be hard for people who like some variety. It can get old real fast eating the same thing over again so here are a few books one can use to switch it up a bit:

The Paleo Solution

The Paleo Diet Cookbook

Everyday Paleo

Paleo Comfort Foods

The Complete Idiot's Guide To Eating Paleo

I myself have The Paleo Solution and Paleo Comfort Foods. If there are any other books or recipes you use, then post them on the comments. Any recipes that kids will eat I'm sure will be greatly appreciated.

  1. I’ll share some recipes too, but my first recommendation would be to get a pressure cooker, in addition to a slow cooker. Both are great for cooking less expensive or tougher cuts of meat and making them a lot more tender. A pressure cooker can take stew meat and turn it into fall apart deliciousness in about half an hour. A slow cooker will do the work while you’re at work. If I had to choose one or the other, I’d go with the pressure cooker.

  2. Books take too long to read. Here’s a flow chart that says the same thing:

Matt, there are two things wrong with that flow chart. First there is a yes with two questions off it (is it corn and is it a potato)- simply does not work in the flow chart world. Second, and more importantly, it fails to include the sine qua non (literally, the without which not, or the necessary ingredient of all flow charts): BACON. No where in the flow chart is the word bacon. Almost forgivable because it helps you not eat rocks, but only almost.

  4. Easy Beef Goulash
for stovetop, slow cooker, or pressure cooker)
1 1/2-2 pounds of cubed beef stew meat (make smaller cubes if you prefer, they’ll cook faster)
    1 small can tomato paste
1 can beef broth or 2 cups of stock
1/8 tsp cayenne pepper(omit if you can’t handle spicy)
    1 Tbs smoked paprika
    1 yellow onion, diced
8-10 white or crimini mushrooms, sliced thick (dried wild mushrooms are great in this too)
    1 clove garlic, crushed
    1 cup diced carrots
    1 red bell pepper, diced
Lightly brown the meat in a dutch oven or large covered skillet on medium high heat in a few tablespoons of olive oil. Add onion, carrots and bell pepper, saute until onions start to be translucent. Add garlic, broth, tomato paste, paprika and pepper and mix ingredients well. Cover and simmer on low heat for about 45 minutes or until meat is tender, adding mushrooms about halfway through cooking time. Serve over steamed cauliflower, mashed or riced. Add sea salt to taste. I like to top it with a little crumbled goat cheese too.
If you’re using the slow cooker, you can brown the meat or not, and just throw all ingredients in the pot together and cook it on low for 6-8 hours. For pressure cooker, throw all ingredients together and mix well, cook for about 25 minutes.

  5. Nice. A few more resources. Here’s the short and sweet guide to the Whole30. http://whole9life.com/2012/01/whole-30-v2012/ + their book releasing in June. I’ve come to love this couple as their research and intensity about the subject is legit. http://amzn.com/1936608898
Also, once you’ve had your fill on theory, dive into meals based on this approach. Well Fed mentioned above is an AWESOME cookbook. I’d also recommend Primal Blueprint Quick and Easy Meals http://amzn.com/0982207743

Well shucks…this post is so interesting! Here is my breakfast:
    Ingredients:
    Rotisserie Chicken
    Pan Sausage
    ¼ Onion (chopped)
    Red Pepper (chopped)
    Spinach
    10 Eggs
    ½ Can TJ’s Coconut Milk
    Directions:
    1. Brown sausage in a skillet
    2. Mix in ¼ onion with sausage and set aside
    3. Pre-heat oven to 350
    4. Grease a large pyrex pan with fat of your choice (insert joke about “fat choice” here)
    5. Add chicken, sausage, red pepper, spinach to pyrex dish
    6. Whisk together eggs and coconut milk
    7. Pour egg/coconut milk mixture on top of other ingredients and bake at 350 for 40 minutes or until eggs no longer shake like Carnie Wilson thighs
I’ll take a large piece (1/5) to work each day. Cooking one meal and having the convenience of 5, that’s a kitchen WOD folks.

  7. Bacon + pan + heat.

  8. paleomg.com is also a good blog for recipes from a pretty badass CrossFitter.

  9. Zone diet – drink as much as you want, balance it out with protein and fat, still lean out. Win.
