In a discussion on the blog a couple of weeks ago, several people expressed interest in open-water rowing at Sac State’s Aquatic Center. For those interested, here’s the lowdown on how it works: You must take an 8-hour class to get certified for rowing in a single shell. After that you can go rent shells on your own (or with a small group of friends) at any time.

You can download the PDF of sections available this summer/fall, both weeknights (4 2-hour evening classes in a week) and weekends (two 2-hr classes for two consecutive weekends). The relevant page is the first one. Feel free to form a group to sign up (max of 6 people in each class, minimum of 3) or sign up on your own. If you’re interested in forming a group but don’t know who else can make similar times, post in comments with your email address and available sections or sign up on the sign-in sheet. Kate W. will send out emails to try to coordinate small groups.

If you can’t make any offered times work or are interested in a different type of rowing, the Aquatic Center also offers private lessons. Go to sacstateaquaticcenter.com or call 278-2842 for details if you want to get a group together for private instruction.
