Watch this quick video before coming to class. Notice the side view hang position he demonstrates. His shins are vertical, back is straight, and shoulders are well in front of the bar. All of these components help stretch out the hamstrings. This is, in my opinion, the most important part of oly lifting. This tension creates the leverage needed to propel the bar up. If one does not hit this position, then the bar will not travel as fast as it should.

Focus on stretching the hamstrings before you bring the bar up to the hips!

Make sure to check out Spencer Arnold’s blog. Lots of good info on the olympic lifts.

  1. Saw some great lifting in the Ocho today. Great job to Erin Cook and Tracey Skinner, you both were pushing it really well. Also, Matt P, Kyle K. Kris B, Rod C, and Brian. Probably leaving some out, sorry, but I definitely was impressed by you all today.

Where is Justin and what have the pod people done with him?

I think they took him to Planet Parenthood–never to return!! (Cue ominous organ music and evil laughter: BWAHAHAHAH!!)

  4. Its like you read my mind! You seem to know so much about this, like you wrote the book in it or something. I think that you can do with a few pics to drive the message home a little bit, but instead of that, this is magnificent blog. An excellent read. I will definitely be back.
