SacTown Throwdown and Strength Sunday

1.26.13 Sabrina Sactown Throwdown
Here's Sabrina in her 30 second axle hold from today's Throwdown strongman ladder. Congrats to our Masters team for coming in first after day one and our Open team placing fifth in a very deep field of competitors. Special acknowledgements to our novice team for going after their workouts with the attitudes of seasoned competitors.

Also, many thanks to those who volunteered today; we had a ton of fun! Remember to report back at 7am tomorrow for the finals to cheer on and assist our teams!

Notable highlights (post your best stories to the comments):

We're a hella strong gym. Our Open and Masters teams both finished first in the strongman ladder. I don't really know what was happening in conditioning–I think some running was involved? Hmm. Anyway, Stranger started the day off strong by completing the lift ladder; Lene also finished the ladder, the beer he got from the sidelines in-between lifts probably helped.

Victoria helped the Novice team to their highest place finish, Gymnastics, by getting in some solid muscle-ups right out of the gate. Steve got some great work done during the gymnastics wod too and they ended up 5th in that workout. Kyle likewise showed solid gymnastics skills, but boosted the team the most with his 240lb stone to shoulder. Denise had some of the best focus I saw all day during the strongman ladder and it paid off for the team when she tied for first amongst Masters women (and don't think I don't see you with those pirouettes!).

On the Master's side, Lene was not only competing, but coaching some of the newer competitors in between his events. Donna was a beast in gymnastics and did an astronomical number of lifts in the clean AMRAP. Sabrina almost made it all the way through the ladder and tied for first in that event too.

Our Open team showed really solid teamwork and consistency. Cori P was doing pullovers like nobody's business, and her log jerks were some of the best technique/form I'd seen all day at that event. Leah was a workhorse and solid all around, helping the team place 4th in the conditioning workouts. Trav was his super self and put in some nice work during the pullups and strongman ladder. Strange ended up pushing 3 people standing on the body prop station because he's just that strong.

Come by tomorrow for the final events and cheer on our teams! Great work everyone, and shout-out to Justin for organizing a well-run and fun event!

Strength:
Tues 6pm deficit deadlift
Thurs 6pm bench or floor press
Sat 11am speed press and kb work

Was so impressed and inspired by everyone’s performances. It has been so amazing to watch this event grow and succeed. What a great day Saturday. Under the weather today and so disappointed to have missed the finals. Congratulations to all who participated as athletes, volunteers, manpower and organizers for contributing to a great event.

  3. So proud of all of our athletes! Hats off to Trav for a stellar performance with the flu. It was doomsday and he showed dooms day what’s up. I am glad you all had the chance to compete in what I believe was the coolest competition of all time. So jealous of you all that it was my own event, and not someone else’s event that I got to compete in myself.
