My Name is Justin Friend, I’m 28 years old, married and was born and raised in Manteca, CA. After playing professional baseball for the last 8 years, my wife who went to UCDavis took a job here in Sacramento, and here we are.
I first heard of CrossFit in 2009. I trained during the offseason with the coaches at CrossFit 209 Sport and I actually came to CrossFit East Sac when they hosted the 1st Sactown Throwdown in 2010. Even though CrossFit is extreme and frowned upon in the professional sports world I loved it when I started. The variety and competitiveness of CrossFit reminds me a lot of baseball. Instead of you and the batter, it’s me and the barbell. I am currently finishing my degree at Oklahoma State, coaching youth at a baseball academy in El Dorado Hills, and would love to get into college athletics as a coach one day. Other than coaching and working out, I enjoy taking my 1-year-old Great Dane to the dog park and trying to convince my wife that golf is fun.

My short term goal is to no longer have a beer league softball body.
And my long term goal is to stay physically fit and be able to compete with my kids when I get older.
