The 2014 Open Season Has Come To A Close

Deadlift (Not Tap And Go)
3-3-3-3-3
Rest 2 Minutes Between Sets

4 rounds for time:
100ft Bear Crawl
12 Broad Jumps (Jump, turn around, Jump)
25 Air Squats

photo-5  Check out Genevieve during 14.5 Saturday morning. It took her just under an hour, but she was determined to do the wod RX. Way to push yourself through a wod filled with your “goat” thrusters!

Anybody else happy the Open is behind us? If you’re like me, the Open once again exposed your weaknesses/limitations. Now how are you going to fix that? First, I would start with mobility. If you aren’t in good positions, then efficiency of movement goes out the window and you suffer more in a wod. Second, listen to how you talk to yourself during a brutal workout. Are you giving yourself motivation, or thinking about how much it hurts? Last, perfect practice makes perfect. Pick one movement per day and do 3 sets of 10 reps, focusing on hitting perfect positions throughout. If you just feel lost on where to begin with a movement, just ask your trainer to give you something to work on. Every little bit of practice helps!

Way to go, Genevieve! You really toughed it out, and you were inspiring to watch. The next time you have a tough WOD you’ll remember that you finished this one by just chipping away at it, one rep at a time.

Genevieve you were the most inspiring of the open season. U chipped away and stayed with 14:15 until the end. That is a true xfitter. U make east sac proud.

Great job Genevieve. I’m so proud of you and the way you just chipped away at this WOD. Way to go.

I agree with Lesley–most inspiring athlete of the season! Way to go after it and finish what you started. I was sad I couldn’t see it! For those who don’t know Genevieve, she brought the same grit to her other open wods–I particularly would call out 14.2, where the prescribed weight was a PR and she notched several reps. Can’t wait to see how you will continue to improve!

    Nice work Genevieve!

  6. I helped coach Genevieve during her warmup. She had never thrustered more than an empty bar. We got her a few reps, then a little pep talk, then 14.5 with no turning back. It was so cool to witness the effort. Thank you for sticking this out and putting on an inspiring effort. This is what the Open is about.

    Way to go Genevieve!!

Hey Genevieve. Way to be a true cross fitter. That wod was tough in every way imaginable. Congratulations girl. You’ve earned it.

Genevieve, I loved doing the previous WOD with you–you are a great athlete and have a wonderful sense of humor. Thanks for your encouragement and congrats on finishing this monster WOD!!

Thank you all for the extremely kind comments. I’m still not sure how I managed to finish it, but I know I couldn’t have done it without: Justin prepping me, Carol Penney judging and cheering me, Sabrina Teller coaching me through the sets of thrusters, Natasha Nelson pushing me through the burpees, Kate Washington for lending me her lifting shoes (and getting me to CrossFit in the first place!!), and all the rest of you who came by to push me on. Humbled and happy. G
