IMG_0372Last month I made a post explaining some powerlifting equipment and techniques that I was using with Tammy to build strength.  See “There are More Ways than One to Skin a Cat” for the full article.  We went from using band assistance and a big foam block on a box to work on attaining the right position for a box squat and trying to build some explosiveness.  The weight at the bottom of this squat in this setup is next to nothing and at the top is around 100#.

I have been strength training with Tammy 1x per week for the last 5.  Tammy has 63# on the bar plus about 120# of chain weight.  So instead of using the bands to assist in lifting the bar, we are actually using the chains to increase the loading on the bar.  The chains are unweighted at the bottom of the squat and increasing to about 120# at the top.  So 63# in the hole and about 180ish at the top for sets of 3.  Also, she is moving the bar much faster than before.

The box was taken away today forcing a little different position and bit more mobility in areas where Tammy is tight.  I also had her push a prowler for 400m with 90# added to it and she did it without stopping except to turn the sled around, which was quite an impressive showing.  This is great progress for 5 weeks of 1x per week training.  I am pretty pumped and excited to see more of this over time.
